Holidays are fast approaching and it seems like there is always a struggle to come up with gifts for someone. We usually know we want to make something for them but what and how expensive is it going to be? The next thought is if I make something will it fit or will they enjoy my efforts. The third thought is how much time do I really have to make something.
These are real problems and concerns especially as it gets later in the month and the added stress of getting things doens is a bit overwhelming.
Why not make your favorite coffee or tea person some place mats or potholders with the coffee theme- one would not have to worry about size style or time and who would not like pot holders especially with a much loved themed.
So... this is what I did- I gathered my fabric from the Quilting Treasures new collections called Daily Grind. This fabric is beautiful and just the right look for the pot holders I want to create.
What makes this fabric perfect - besides the fact it has coffee and tea screaming all over the fabric, well not really screaming but I did a bit of a scream when we were shown this fabric from our sales rep.. we ordered it immediately and patiently waited for it to be delivered.

this is the fabric we selected and we now have it so I have been busy getting the pot holders made.
I used the fabric at the top right and cut the images I wanted to use. There are endless possibilites for image selction so you can make several at a time. One potholder from start to finish is under an hour then the following ones go a bit faster since you know what you are doing and it goes smoother.
I used the coordinating fabrics to make the back the binding and the trim. The only other thing you need to make them is some insul brite batting and the thread of your choice.
All you need to do is to cut your pot holder is to cut out the front picture then cut a coordinating fabric a 2" x 6 1/2" pieces ( you will need 2) then another one at 2"x9 1/2" piece for the sides again needing 2 of them.
Pick out a piece of fabric for the back of the potholders - you will need a 9 1/2" square for the back. For the binding you will need another piece of fabric with a 2 1/2" by the WOF( width of fabric)
You will need insulbrite for the batting - cut a 9 1/2" square.
This is the finished product- If you need the tutorial please ask and we will send you a link for the potholders.
